Patrick Donovan was appointed CEO of Music Victoria, the peak body for contemporary music, in 2010. This followed a 15 year career at The Age newspaper where he was chief music writer for 12 years; wrote the local Sticky Carpet music column; and interviewed artists from Nick Cave to Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, David Bowie and Lou Reed. In his time at the Age, he founded and ran The EG Awards and started the campaign to name a street in honour of AC/DC which led to AC/DC Lane. He tour managed Iggy Pop in 1998, played in a band, and DJed. He is currently a member of the Victorian Live Music Roundtable and is on the board of the National Film and Sound Archive.
Dale has spent years touring the world with many successful bands as a tour manager, sound engineer, artist manager and musician. In more recent times, his work and passion has been managing the touring department at Regional Arts Victoria and coordinating events around Australia that connect artists with new audiences and opportunities. He also runs Club Kids Music Academy and is a board member for Schoolhouse Studios.
Event Producer & Marketing
Since joining the MV team in 2017, Laura has steered the organization through a new logo, our "Live and Breathe" viral membership video campaign, and our 10-year anniversary campaign. Laura is also the Producer for the Music Victoria Awards, coordinating the event and booking the diverse performers each year.
She’s hosted and appeared on panels and workshops to offer her knowledge on crowdfunding, grant writing and release strategy, and is passionate about empowering musicians.
Most well-known as a musician, Laura also has experience in web series production, radio broadcasting and DJing. Segments from her web series "Amateur Hour" have been seen on abc iview, and included in 2017 Music Documentary "Her Sound, Her Story". She's still making music too, and released her fourth album “Scared Of You” in 2019.
Memberships and Professional Development Manager
Ash has worn a number of hats in the music industry as client manager, publicist and radio presenter. Most recently, she has been facilitating professional development programs, and draws from this experience in curating Music Victoria’s professional development program. Ash is immersed in the cultural tapestry of music in Melbourne, and brings her diverse experience to Music Victoria as Memberships and Professional Development Manager.
Live Music Professionals/Cultivate Project Manager
At Music Victoria Sarah project manages both the Cultivate and Live Music Professionals programs – government funded leadership and business coaching programs for the Victorian music sector. Her background has been firmly rooted in the Melbourne music community including close to ten years spent with community broadcaster, PBS FM (where she both presented programs and worked in a variety of roles at the station). From there, Sarah moved on to work in digital distribution with The Orchard and project management at The Push where she ran music industry workshops and mentoring programs. Sarah has also spent a decent amount of time writing columns and articles for street press, running benefit gigs and working in music television.
A recent graduate of Box Hill Institute (Bachelor of Music Business), James’ passion for music led him to Music Victoria - he interned with us in 2018 and he impressed us so much, we kept him!
A multi-instrumentalist with diverse music taste, James is looking forward to gaining hands-on experience working in the music industry.
